The Canucks are the best team to make concepts for because they have so many different eras to be inspired by. This concept combines elements from their original stick-in-rink and orca jerseys. It also uses the Reverse Retro Johnny Canuck logo, and a new shade of green.

For this concept I used the angled stripes from the Canucks' Skate logo, while using the V from their Flying-V jersey as the main crest.

NHL Theme Night (Concept Champs Cup)

Hey there! The final prompt for group A in the Jersey Nerds' Concept Champs Cup was to design an NHL Theme Night jersey.

Vancouver Canucks Pride Night

Hockey is for everyone, of every sexual orientation and every gender identity! At least that's what I believe, so I made this Canucks Pride Night concept which uses both the pride flag (wavy style) and transgender pride flag (logo outline and trim).

Yellow Canucks and Secret Template 2.0

The Canucks current third jersey is quite popular among their fans, which has some people wondering if it will eventually become their next home jersey. If it does, I think they should go with a yellow road jersey (yellow was their light jersey colour from 1978-89). Nashville's yellow home jersey could cause some logistical problems, but the Canucks could just wear their black jerseys for those games.

Also I made some updates to my new "secret" template, fixing some issues with the sleeves and hem.

Reacting to Negative Comments

Occasionally people will make negative comments about my concepts, but that doesn't bother me for two reasons. First of all, the positive comments vastly outnumber the negative comments. Most importantly though, I take the negative comments as a good sign that I'm being daring enough with my concepts.

So today I thought I'd take a look at some of the negative comments left by Icethetics users, and the concepts of mine that inspired those strong opinions.

King of All Kings Concepts (April 9th, 2012)

Looks like one of those female versions of jerseys that you can get in the official team stores. I hate it. This coming from a die-hard Kings fan.

This was the first time I was featured as the daily concept on Icethetics. My main goal here was to try out a dark purple and silver colour scheme, and most of the comments were positive. However, Ron Swanson was not a fan, presumably due to the use of purple. I wonder if Ron knows the Kings used purple as their primary colour for their first 20 years of existence.

JerseyMan summed this concept up perfectly, this is basically just a long sleeve soccer shirt. That wasn't my intention when I made this concept though, it was supposed to be a modern take on the Canucks' Flying-V jerseys.

Teepees! TEEPEES!!! Why would they be little teepees, they're obviously the sun rays from the Panthers old secondary logo (it would probably make more sense if the striping was curved instead of straight). I was attempting to give the Panthers their own unique pattern, like the Hurricanes' warning stripes or the Coyotes' kachina design.

Sometimes it's too easy to get a reaction out of people, all you have to do is use the Sabres' buffaslug logo and people will completely freak out. Although, I actually think that logo would have been better received if it was only ever used as a shoulder patch.

The C in Colorado (September 14th, 2016)

This is somehow worse than their current set.

What an asinine comment, there is NO WAY these are worse than Colorado's primary set in 2016. Those Avalanche jerseys were some of the worst primary jerseys in the history of the NHL, with their ugly side panels, piping, and shoulder yokes that desperately needed some trim. This isn't a very good concept, but it's better than those abominations.

In all seriousness, this concept wasn't meant to be taken too seriously, it was featured as a Freak-out-Friday on Icethetics after all. But it was a very enjoyable concept to make!

Two-Tone Toronto (July 7th, 2022)

This was my take on the Leafs "Next Gen" alternate jersey, and I didn't think it was that crazy of a concept. The only daring feature was the bright blue, but I guess that was enough to startle some people.

Nordiques Nowadays (October 5th, 2022)

I like a lot of Steven’s designs, this isn’t one of them. These just feel wrong.

I actually meant for this concept to be a bit disappointing, at least the home and road jerseys. You see, back in 2012 when I did my first Nordiques What If? series, I ended the series on a high note by returning them to their classic jerseys. Part two of the series in 2022 needed a different ending, so I ditched those classic jerseys for a modern "stealth" set.

A Hawk of a Different Color (June 7th, 2023)

Many people believe the Blackhawks have the best jerseys in the NHL, and some of those people get quite upset if you try to experiment with their look. That makes them a very fun team to make concepts for. For the above concept I made the "blasphemous" decision to add the colours from their logo to the striping.

Vancouver Canucks - NHL Sock Series

Hello folks!

Vancouver Canucks

This Canucks concept combines the colour scheme (and sock design) from their original orca jerseys, with the V on the sleeve stripes from their inaugural jerseys, and their current stick-in-the-rink logo and number font.

As a reminder here's how this series works, each concept reuses a sock design the team has worn at some point in their history. My challenge is to make something new that still matches those socks.

NHL Double Series - Final Updates

Welcome back!  Today's post is the finale of my NHL Double Series, and it features updated designs for five concepts (mostly minor updates).  Let's get started...

My Ideal Buffalo Sabres

I originally had the hem stripes on the road jersey matching the sleeve stripes, but I decided to switch to mis-matched stripes (like the Sabres current jerseys).  I also used the updated version of their logo.

My Ideal Carolina Hurricanes

Updates here include; removing the pant stripe, ditching the red yoke on the road jersey, and switching to red numbers on that jersey as well.

New Look Colorado Avalanche

I was never entirely happy with my New Look Avalanche concept, especially the way it used black throughout the design.  So like the Avalanche did in real life, I ditched black all-together (besides the puck in the logo).  I also thickened the trim along the hem and cuffs, and added a pant stripe.

My Ideal Los Angeles Kings

It's a pretty minor change, but the piping no longer has a tapered end (it originally tapered away before the collars).

Now that the Abbotsford Canucks have adopted Johnny Canuck as their logo, I've updated this concept to use the Canucks modern stick-in-the-rink logo (I recoloured it on the road jersey).

The Canucks could really use green jersey in their arsenal, so I did a Reverse Retro of the Vancouver Millionaires' jersey in green and navy.  It was either going to be this or a WHL Canucks inspired concept.

Past Concepts from Across Canada

Happy Canada Day!  I thought I'd celebrate this day by sharing some of my old concepts for various teams from across Canada, starting out west with Vancouver!

Vancouver Canucks:

This Canucks concept was inspired by soccer jerseys.  The angled stripes are meant to be subtle V's.

Vancouver Giants:

Next up we have a Vancouver Giants concept, which was my take on the Giants original jerseys.

Surrey Eagles:

For this Surrey Eagles concept, I based the striping off of the jersey the eagle in the logo is wearing.

Abbotsford Heat:

Looking back now, I could have been more creative with this Abbotsford Heat concept.

Chilliwack Chiefs:

I went with a double sleeve-stripe design for this Chilliwack Chiefs concept, and used an angular font to match the angles in the logo.

Calgary Flames:

The gradients on this Flames concept are meant to look like flames.

Edmonton Oilers:

Here's a grey Oilers concept which uses their old "steel-drop" logo in front of a diagonal chest stripe.

Winnipeg Jets:

Moving on to Winnipeg, we have an aviator blue jersey with chevrons on the sleeves.

Manitoba Moose:

I simplified the old colour scheme of the Manitoba Moose for this concept.

London Knights:

This London Knights concept uses stripes on the ends of the shoulder yoke.

Hamilton Tigers:

Tiger stripes were the theme of this Hamilton Tigers concept.

Toronto Maple Leafs:

Here's a fauxback Maple Leafs concept which combines some of their old Toronto Arenas and St. Pats jerseys.

Toronto Marlies:

I used the Maple Leafs' 1930-34 jersey as inspiration for this Toronto Marlies concept.

Ottawa Senators:

This Senators concept is based off of the logo and jerseys of the WHA's Ottawa Nationals.

Montreal Canadiens:

Next up is a Canadiens concept using a chest stripe on a white jersey.

Montreal Maroons:

Also in Montreal, this was my idea of an update for the old Montreal Maroons.

Quebec Nordiques:

Last but not least, we have a double blue Quebec Nordiques concept which was part of my what if the Nordiques never moved set of concepts.

Quick Colour Swap Concepts

I was in the mood to make some quick colour swapped concepts, so that's exactly what I did!

Boston Bruins:

This is just the Bruins third jersey in yellow instead of black.

Dark Mode Detroit Red Wings:

Here's a "dark mode" version of the Red Wings home jersey.

Montreal Canadiens:

I'm sure you've seen this many times before, it's the Canadiens home jersey with red and blue swapped.

New York Islanders:

Next up we have an orange Islanders jersey, which is their road jersey with the main white area coloured in.

Pittsburgh Penguins (Yellow):

This is the Penguins road jersey re-coloured to match their 1980-84 yellow jersey.

Pittsburgh Penguins (Blue):

I also re-created the Penguins 1977-80 double blue set of jerseys.

Vancouver Canucks:

Last but not least we have the Canucks current home jerseys in green instead of blue.
